That’s better. Now, I was wondering, is this really the way you want to set up a meeting? Sending your people in yet again? At least he and his followers were only foolish enough to pursue the Animus.
We’ve heard your requests for a meeting, and we’re considering it. But there are a lot of things to be sorted out first. The biggest question is who guarantees our safety? We’ve gotten some talk, but not a great deal. We need assurances.
[She chuckles shortly.]
Maybe a bigger question is who would even attend if it was about talk instead of fighting. Most of you seem only intelligent enough to know which end of a stick is the pointy one.

I would attend a meeting, if it was about talk. Fighting won't get anyone anywhere, even if there are more people who feel otherwise.
But... I can't provide you any assurances, not unless I have them myself. I'm sure you can understand, being in the situation you all are in. It's how most of us down here feel, I think...
[Voice]
No, I don't understand. You're the group asking for a meeting, but you want us to assure you? No.

I think it is more than a meeting that the residents are asking for. They're asking for answers. The fact that they have been given little to nothing... it's like starving a dog. Eventually, they're more apt to bite the hand that feeds.
Luckily, there are some of us who know that biting back isn't the way to accomplish things.
However, I believe that you're going to not do anything aside from turn your nose up at my attempt at civil conversation, despite the fact that it is also an attempt to understand what kind of assurance you're looking for, and if I can provide it at all. You will try to goad me and grind me back into the dirt. To spare you the effort, it won't work. I still stand by what I say.
At the end of the day, that's fine. At least I cannot say I didn't try to overcome the obstacle first.

You're not trying to overcome the obstacle if all you say is "Oh, poor me, I can't do it." That's not any help to anyone at all now, is it, dearie? You want assurances, but we're the ones that get threatened. Why don't you go study up on what it's like to actually work on overcoming something instead of just giving up right away, and then you can come talk to me again?

Both parties are looking for assurances. Both parties are looking for cooperation. If you want to settle any, you'd do best to take that into consideration.
