{Unified Universe Project}[Accidental Video]

[The PCD comes on, tilted at an odd angle. It shows several in a big office: Andrew Johnson, Donna Malkovich, Bao Ying, and Chairman Springsteen. There are others hanging around, but those are the four in the forefront.]

Andrew thumps his fist on the desk. “I will not go back! There’s too much to lose! Let them go back as they will, but—“

“Like we have any control over the Animus.” Donna’s voice is just as angry.

Bao shakes her head. “Can you not shield over the inner city? We can also invite in those who wish to stay, for a short time. I know you have been working on—“

“No.” The Chairman gets up from his chair and paces. “We’ve been trying to find a way, yes. But it hasn’t worked yet. We’re affected by the damned creatures the same as the Outsiders.”

“We will lose everything.” Andrew is seething. “And we still haven’t found—“

“No, we haven’t.” Donna cuts him off again. “But does it matter? If we can’t change something… Though now might be as good a time as any to see if we can hurt the Animus.”

Bao’s eyes go wide. “It will backfire. And again, me and mine will pay the price. Do not do this.”

The Chairman snorts. “That’s what you and yours are here for. If your predecessor hadn’t—“

“Do not even mention him.” Bao’s hand rests on her gun. “I know you’ve lied about him. They found his journal. It’s in the Outer City, not in the Waste. What else did you lie about, Springsteen? While you and your wife hide cozy in your house, drinking and isolated, safe from the damage you cause…”

Andrew has visibly calmed, and he places a hand on Bao’s shoulder. She glares at him but doesn’t shrug it off. “We’re not going to let him toss you to the Samaren Outsider. And now you don’t have to worry about him if we go back. One way or another, you’re safe.”

Bao looks away and doesn’t comment.

“Well. Now that that little temper tantrum is over.” Donna gives Bao a very wintery smile. “I would rather hurt and have repercussions than be sent home. I vote we use it.”

“Seconded.” The Chairman sits back down and looks over at Johnson.

“Against.” Andrew folds his arms.

“Against.” Bao’s hand hasn’t left her gun.

The Chairman glances off to the side, at Anderson Miles. “The deciding vote is yours.”

Miles frowns and swallows. “Against. We don’t know how much it will backfire, and it could hurt us more. If we go home, we can always fix our errors.”

“Cowards.” Springsteen glares at all except Donna. “Dismissed, then. We sit and wait, like the Outsiders have to, even when we have tools at our disposal. Enjoy—“

[The PCD times out.]

[[ooc: Mod decision - Upon use of the device, the five that volunteer get an impression of being swooped away and awareness of the Animus. The Animus cannot be seen, but there's a presence. And it is Not Amused, though it's a little surprised. Then there's a rush, and all five come back to themselves with MASSIVE headaches, horrible nausea, and dizziness. These five consist of: Squall/Leon, Nel Tu, Akito/Agito, Alucard, and Ulquiorra. Observers can join the log seperately: http://community.livejournal.com/adstrngndumlog/408051.html ]]

Not you, old man. The other scientists.

...and from how the Colonel spoke, I assume that those pushing the buttons will be killed in some form or fashion.

[Squall nods.]

I understand, count me in.

I have no responsibility to give you hope.

Then that's one.

[[ooc: The device will give severe-migrane-like effects to the users: headache, vomiting, dizziness. We're figuring out now if it will have an effect on the Animus.]]

It's possible. Or they might survive.

But the Animus would be angry with them. So they might not survive long after that.

Then you're one of the five you'll need.

[identity profile] adstring-npc.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Why would they care?

[personal profile] saucey 2010-01-22 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Probably because they give a damn.

When the time comes, please alert me of where I need to be.

But...if that person dies and everyone is sent home anyway, would they be sent home as well, never to live again? Or would they be stuck in some sort of limbo?

...I don't know, sir. I have mixed feelings. I desperately want us to stay, but...there are so many risks.

[identity profile] adstring-npc.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
There are two, then. You'll need three more.

Alright, just let me know what I need to do.

[identity profile] adstring-npc.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Do they? Maybe they don't. Maybe all of us don't really care about any of you.

[identity profile] iceandivory.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
...

You're the ones who created this, supposedly. I would assume if you have enough decently capable people to begin a project like this in the first place, even if you failed utterly, you would have been studying behavior patterns, weather patterns, natural disaster patterns, any patterns.

Even the animus must have patterns. The least you could do is attempt to figure out whether they're telling the truth or whether they're capable of what they claim.

Among other things.

[identity profile] snappedking.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
[Been reading the unprotected threads]

... I'll help.

[identity profile] adstring-npc.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
The device is now at [x,y].

There are five buttonpads connected by cable to it. Set the device down, each of five people takes a control and walks as far as they can. Then they push the button.

Easy enough for you to manage. I hope.

[A nod.]

On my way right now, I'll be there soon.

[identity profile] adstring-npc.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
I have no idea. I don't care. I'm not using it, and I wasn't going to be one of the ones pushing the button anyway.

Take them or leave them.

[identity profile] 1soul3sides.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Team effort, hm?

[identity profile] adstring-npc.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
We know they're capable. That's why we had the meeting. The pattern is that they warn and taunt, and then it happens. Surely that's not been a hard pattern to see.

We made the initial mistake. But we haven't been able to fix it yet.

Re: [Video]

[identity profile] adstring-npc.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. It requires five.

[[ooc: Nel Tu and Squall are the first two on the team. The main post has been edited with the device/effects. :D]]

[identity profile] adstring-npc.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Then you make three. Talk to the first idiot to volunteer.

I believe I prefer the attitude of your subordinates more than I do yours, sir.

I can't risk possibly killing myself or others and letting us get stuck in some sort of middle ground or worse. I can't accept your offer.

[identity profile] snappedking.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, Sir!

[identity profile] 1soul3sides.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
At least it means there will be more hands in case it goes wrong.

(ooc: Awesome. It gonna be a log or just a "lets not and say we did"?)
