{Unified Universe Project}

[There’s a clicking noise, then a burst of static, before a moment of silence. A male voice speaks first, recognizable as Greg’s.] Did it work?

[A female speaks up.] Is it a plant? No. How should I know if it works? Mine got eaten by the Hungry Vine.

[A third voice speaks up, a new male.] He was asking in general, not you, Abbot. And yeah, I think it’s going. But not video. You’re the codemonkey, fix it.

[Greg snorts.] Fixing, fixing, bug boy. You go play with your beetles, I’ll get this… there.

[The video flickers on, showing Greg, Caroline Abbot, and another young man who resembles Greg slightly. ]

[Greg nods happily.]
Guess what? We have blankets! [He holds up stiffer-looking greenish-white blankets.] We’re going to share! Abbot can explain!

[Caroline sighs.] They’re plant fiber. I modified the Hungry Vine to have stronger limbs, and—

[The other guy shakes his head.] She’ll talk for hours. Look. Plants became blankets. It’s not good weather for them, but you’ll have them. Anyone wants to pick them up, we already dropped off a load at [x,y]. Outreach and shit, since our PR department is fuc—

Matthew! [Greg’s voice is sharp.] There’s a lady present.

[Caroline blinks, staring at Greg.]

[Matthew snorts.]
Fine. Since our PR department is sleeping around instead of making sweet, sweet love to all of y—

[Greg reaches over and shuts the sound of the PCD off. He and Matthew talk for a moment, while Caroline looks very awkward. She plays with a vine that’s crawling up her arm, smiling at it. The boys stop talking, and Greg rolls his eyes and turns the sound back on.]

[Matthew sighs.]
The PR department isn’t doing its job. So we’re doing what we can. Better?

[Greg nods, then looks off to the side.] We’ve got to stop transmitting for now. Guard cycles. But we’ll answer questions in a few minutes. It should be safe.

[He smiles, and with a quick wave, he shuts off the PCD.]

[[ooc: There are twenty-five plant-fiber blankets at the location listed.]]

Those all sound like rather large downsides, i'm surprised that you haven't gone crazy from boredom.

What are the good points to wherever you are then? Or is that some big secret?

[identity profile] adstring-npc.livejournal.com 2009-07-14 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I am a wild and crazy guy! But I've got my projects.

[Matthew grins.]

Most of it's secret. But I won't deny the swimming pool has its upsides.

[Voice]

[identity profile] dreammaren.livejournal.com 2009-07-14 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Wild and crazy over stuffy and tiresome any day. At least you have something to do, I guess, better than out here.

Lucky~

[identity profile] adstring-npc.livejournal.com 2009-07-14 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
We've got all sorts of things to do.

Very. Squid-free swimming, I'll take that any day.

[identity profile] dreammaren.livejournal.com 2009-07-14 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Sharing is caring, you know. Couldn't you slip something out to perk this place up a bit more?

What's a squid though?

[identity profile] adstring-npc.livejournal.com 2009-07-14 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[Matthew smirks widely]

I do bugs. I don't think you want them running around. But I can see about sending some out.

What's a squid? If you go jump in that lake out there, you'll find out pretty da-- fast.

[identity profile] dreammaren.livejournal.com 2009-07-15 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
They'd make things much more interesting out here~

I try to avoid making a habit out of jumping into unknown waters. I'll just assume it's dangerous.

[identity profile] adstring-npc.livejournal.com 2009-07-15 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Well, if you're sure...

[Matthew walks over to a small cage in the corner and brings it over, showing several large preying-mantis-looking things. Except they're red, and have another pair of legs.]

I call this baby the Bleeding Mantis. You want me to let loose a few?

It's dangerous and big. It was here before we were, it looks like.

[identity profile] dreammaren.livejournal.com 2009-07-15 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Bleeding Mantis? Because of the colour?

If those things were here before then they might come back one day anyway. How big is big though?

[identity profile] adstring-npc.livejournal.com 2009-07-15 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
The color, and what they feed on.

[Matthew smirks.]

I mean it showed up before we were here, and he's still here. Big is like train or something. Really big.

[identity profile] dreammaren.livejournal.com 2009-07-15 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Doesn't sound to tasty food-wise.

Does that mean you've been here for a long time then? They don't look that big.

[identity profile] adstring-npc.livejournal.com 2009-07-15 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
You didn't say you wanted bugs to eat. You just said you wanted more bugs.

Yep. About a year and a half.

Giant squid is huge. Again, go look at it.

[identity profile] dreammaren.livejournal.com 2009-07-15 12:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean it doesn't sound tasty for them. The bugs.

That really is a long time then.

That's the giant squid though.

[identity profile] adstring-npc.livejournal.com 2009-07-15 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
They don't mind it. That's what they eat.

[Matthew sighs and shakes his head.]

And no vacations either. That's the sucky part.

[identity profile] dreammaren.livejournal.com 2009-07-15 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Still doesn't sound all that nice.

From what i've seen of this place, I doubt there would be anywhere for you to go even if you could.

[identity profile] adstring-npc.livejournal.com 2009-07-15 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
It makes them pretty efficient little predators, though.

No, not here. Maybe home, when we get back.

[identity profile] dreammaren.livejournal.com 2009-07-15 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess that's very true.

Hm. If you're lucky back home?

[identity profile] adstring-npc.livejournal.com 2009-07-15 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
It's in our contracts, vacation time. We'll have a lot stored up by the time we get back.

[identity profile] adstring-npc.livejournal.com 2009-07-15 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. You sign them, you get assurred of pay and jobs and make sure everything's fair.

[identity profile] dreammaren.livejournal.com 2009-07-15 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Do they really keep things fair?

[identity profile] adstring-npc.livejournal.com 2009-07-15 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
That's why people sign them.

[identity profile] dreammaren.livejournal.com 2009-07-15 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
That didn't answer my question.

[identity profile] adstring-npc.livejournal.com 2009-07-15 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[Matthew shrugs.]

Some are, some aren't. It's hard to know what all is buried in it, sometimes. I think ours are good, though.
