{Unified Universe Project} [Video]

[Several scientists, most of them recognizable, along with Bao, are seated around a table in what appears to be a conference room. Files rest in front of each scientist, most closed.]

[Anderson Miles closes his own and nods to Bao.]
And now, if you can fill us in on the situation that's developing?

[She nods, getting to her feet.] On the surface--

[The door opens, cutting her off. Everyone looks at the new arrival, Dr. Regina Lyle.] I'm sorry to interrupt, but--

[The Chairman stands, looking more than just a little annoyed.] We're in our meeting. It can wait.

[Regina glances around, frowning, hesitating. Johnson finally speaks up, maybe taking pity on her, maybe trying to keep things moving.] I'm sure you have a reason for this. You've never interrupted before. [He accompanies that comment with a mild glance at the Chairman. Donna sits off to the side, smirking.]

[Regina nods.] It's the variance. It's back. And this time it's up to .07%, much stronger than last time.

[There are no more looks of superiority. Every scientist is thinking, and thinking as fast as they can. Bao stands in silence for a moment before giving a quick bow.] I think I am safe in saying that you would prefer me to return to my men? We can keep an eye on the possibility of war outside.

[The Chairman waves a hand dismissively. He looks distracted and stressed, more than usual.] Yes. Yes, go. Lyle, I need what you have. Meeting adjourned, turn off the recorder.

[Andrew Johnson reaches over and shuts off his PCD.]

So those on the inside are also aware of this talk of war out here.

[Andrew nods, his mild gaze lacking its normal bit of amusement.]

It would be pretty remiss if we didn't know when we might be threatened next. Especially after what's happened before.

Hopefully nothing will escalate. Hopefully.

There are many of us out here that do not wish for a war to start.

We agree.

It would be better if one doesn't start. Everyone would be safer, and we won't need to rest in the capable hands of Colonel Bao.

Considering the nature of the one proposing the war, yes, everyone would be a lot safer if it didn't happen.

Anyone can propose. He's even proposed before.

This time he got smarter and waited for someone else to start something.

The variance.

Is there any information you could share with us that could possibly keep the tension from escalating?

If I may ask, what is this "variance"?

Variance?

[Voice]

[identity profile] adstring-npc.livejournal.com 2010-06-06 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
The difference between base frequencies and arrivals. Normally there's no difference, it's 0. Now it's happened twice.

[identity profile] adstring-npc.livejournal.com 2010-06-06 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
[He considers for a bit before shaking his head.]

No. It would stir up more. And why would someone believe me, one of the members of the Project? I can't help there.

What happened the first time?

[identity profile] adstring-npc.livejournal.com 2010-06-06 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
Every world vibrates at a set frequency. When someone arrives in this world, their frequency changes to match, and that means everything is stable.

A difference, a variance, in the frequency hints at something not merging correctly.

Something that normally doesn't exist here, a possible instability.

Do you remember the two weeks just recently where a great deal of people were suddenly here and then gone? It started shortly before the Animus played that little trick, and ended shortly after.

Does this put Adstringendum in danger?

We don't know. That's why there's a bit of focus on it.

A change in the frequency and stability of this world?

[A slight narrowing of the eyes as he silently studies the other man.]

But you do know something. Something that isn't just mere hearsay.

[identity profile] other-sights.livejournal.com 2010-06-06 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
I do.

Would it be safe to presume that this will bring a similar situation?
