{Unified Universe Project} [Video]

[Several scientists, most of them recognizable, along with Bao, are seated around a table in what appears to be a conference room. Files rest in front of each scientist, most closed.]

[Anderson Miles closes his own and nods to Bao.]
And now, if you can fill us in on the situation that's developing?

[She nods, getting to her feet.] On the surface--

[The door opens, cutting her off. Everyone looks at the new arrival, Dr. Regina Lyle.] I'm sorry to interrupt, but--

[The Chairman stands, looking more than just a little annoyed.] We're in our meeting. It can wait.

[Regina glances around, frowning, hesitating. Johnson finally speaks up, maybe taking pity on her, maybe trying to keep things moving.] I'm sure you have a reason for this. You've never interrupted before. [He accompanies that comment with a mild glance at the Chairman. Donna sits off to the side, smirking.]

[Regina nods.] It's the variance. It's back. And this time it's up to .07%, much stronger than last time.

[There are no more looks of superiority. Every scientist is thinking, and thinking as fast as they can. Bao stands in silence for a moment before giving a quick bow.] I think I am safe in saying that you would prefer me to return to my men? We can keep an eye on the possibility of war outside.

[The Chairman waves a hand dismissively. He looks distracted and stressed, more than usual.] Yes. Yes, go. Lyle, I need what you have. Meeting adjourned, turn off the recorder.

[Andrew Johnson reaches over and shuts off his PCD.]

I do.

Would it be safe to presume that this will bring a similar situation?

I don't know. One previous experience isn't enough to build a theory on.

Perhaps not. I am not familiar with this field of expertise.

Do you believe that is a danger to this world as a whole, this variance being different?

With almost any scientific field you have to gather information from more than one possible isolated incident.

We think it's less to those who live in the Outer City. It's been shown that you can come and go without lasting effect.

[Talking to the boy that lives the opposite of that, Professor. Maybe he'll grow up someday.]

Those of the Inner City cannot?

None of us have arrived or departed since we all landed here. At least we're coming back to life, though. We didn't, at first.

Ah, please pardon my interference, but this is something of a relevant subject to a Shinigami - do you mean to say that death was not always reversible here?

Pardoned.

For those of the Unified Universe Project, correct.

Everyone else has always seemed to be able to come back to life.

How fascinating... although, perhaps not unexpected, considering the entities involved...

No? I'd be interested in hearing your considerations.

If my understanding is correct, then the main interest of the Animus is entertainment. It is possible that it had taken them some time to realize that dead humans are not very entertaining...

Although there is, of course, the possibility that they were not initially aware of their own capability for ressurrection. Did any of the early, ah, returnees... come back wrong, so to say?

Anything's possible.

No. When resurection began it was complete. It's possible they didn't know what they wanted.
