{???} [Voice post]

[A male voice comes over the PCD, slightly uncertain and almost hesitant.]

H-hey, what are the conditions of the generators out there? Are they still running?

[Voice // filtered to ???]

Why are you asking these questions? Can the generators be reactivated?

[Voice // filtered to ???]

[identity profile] adstring-npc.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I think since the Animus are controlling things, no. But the generators should kick in automatically once the event is over. But if there's any physical damage, then I want to make sure someone can get out there to fix them.

[identity profile] ethereal-genius.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
What is the likelihood that the Animus would cause physical and repairable damage to the generators when they could simply deactivate them in their own way? If they don't want any power here, they certainly won't cut it off and still leave room for us to undo what they did. Surely you know that?

[identity profile] adstring-npc.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I was less worried about the Animus tampering with them physically and well, creatures. Or someone who might try to take them. Are the fences around them still up?

[Voice // filtered to ???]

[identity profile] ethereal-genius.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
As I said before, I wouldn't know.

If creatures can't attack them on a regular basis they aren't likely to attempt now whether the fences are up or not. The same goes for those who may try and steal them; those most likely to do that have powers and could probably have gotten around the fences, which renders the need to wait for a lowered defense meaningless.

Well, thanks for the information.

The Animus have gone too far this time.

I hope you break through the streak of incompetency the city workers have shown us thus far.

Streak of incompetency? I admit there are some people here who I wouldn't work with even if I was paid too, but I think they did get a good job getting the city set up with power generators and water filtration systems.

A word of advice:

Let the community hear your voices more often. Otherwise, when you do speak, they will regard you as strangers, likely with scorn and disdain.

Is that what the PR department has been doing? We've been getting their reports from the monthly meetings with the community.

[Voice // filtered to ???]

Monthly...

[The authoritative tone breaks; he now sounds slightly unsure.]

Apparently, I have missed something. Or a few things, rather, seeing as I've been here for a few months.

What reports would these be?

[Voice // filtered to ???]

[identity profile] adstring-npc.livejournal.com 2009-01-23 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
[There's also a small break in the voice.]

The reports that show the state of the city, people's concerns, what people want. I mean... aside from the obvious, going home. We're working on that, we really are.

There haven't been meetings that I've seen, and I see a lot of what goes on around here. More likely, your "PR Department" hacks into our codings and reads what we've been discussing. Hardly seems like public relations to me.

...

Are there city-wide generators and water-filtration systems?

[Voice // filtered to ???]

[identity profile] ethereal-genius.livejournal.com 2009-01-23 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
City-wide? No. We create them ourselves, but those are currently inactive, as you've been told already.

And that is not public relations.

...Wait. The city should have electricity around the entire area. How about running water?

[Voice // filtered to ???]

[identity profile] ethereal-genius.livejournal.com 2009-01-23 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Please see the above answer, I do so hate repeating myself.

Have you been told that we do?

[Voice // filtered to ???]

[identity profile] adstring-npc.livejournal.com 2009-01-23 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Yes.

How about housing? Are there apartments built?

[Voice // filtered to ???]

[identity profile] ethereal-genius.livejournal.com 2009-01-23 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Someone saw fit to lie, then. How reassuring.

Apartments, abandoned buildings and warehouses, that kind of thing, yes.

I... I need to look into this. I mean...

We all saw how things were at the start. Do you mean... nothing out there has changed?

[Voice // filtered to ???]

[identity profile] ethereal-genius.livejournal.com 2009-01-23 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't been here from the start...but it simply looks like a destroyed city. The inhabitants have been doing what they must to survive, but regularly there is no power whatsoever.

And to be frank, we've heard the voices of the Animus more than the voices of anyone from the city center.

Hence, the apparent incompetency.

...There's something wrong here. I mean... that's not right.

I... they really don't tell us much. We get our weekly and monthly updates, sure, but... hell, even I've only seen the head guy once or twice and that was at the orientation, way before this. This...

...I'm Greg. I'm just one of the coders trying to work this out, but... I'll talk to my supervisor and some of the other guys around here. Maybe they know what's going on.

That's just... God.

[Voice // Filtered to Greg]

[identity profile] ethereal-genius.livejournal.com 2009-01-23 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Video feed kicks in, and Greg can now see the boy's grim expression. Near's eyes are haunted, and his tone is still flat.]

Please do what you can to try and figure this out. Whatever you are told, we know less. Everything that happens is up for speculation and interpretation, and disagreements lead to disaster in a situation with such tension as this.

I'm Near.

I stopped believing in a god when this version of Hell came into effect, Greg. It's not right. It's not right at all.

[Voice // Filtered to Near]

[identity profile] adstring-npc.livejournal.com 2009-01-23 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
[There's a long pause before the video feed kicks in on Greg's side, showing him, a young man in his 20s, sitting in a dark room.]

I'll do my best. I can't promise anything soon... I mean, I'm taking risks even with this since the big guys monitor everything we say and do. But...

We want to go home too. We miss our families and... we're working on something. We really are. I swear we're trying to fix this.

[Voice // Filtered to Greg]

[identity profile] ethereal-genius.livejournal.com 2009-01-23 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Great to know even those working at the city center have internal struggles. Very reassuring.

I believe you. I think we're all just hoping some good comes out of this.
